If you’d like an interesting environment for your practical training, consider becoming one of us at TARMO! Everyone working at TARMO supports the overall functional capacity of individuals and groups from a perspective of well-being and health promotion. This happens either on campus at Karelia, on home visits, in the facilities of our partners, or at various events.
At TARMO, students work in pairs or small groups. We have formed three teams based on customer groups, and the teams’ activities are guided and coordinated by licensed healthcare professionals. During your practical training, TARMO offers you the opportunity to work independently in teams with different client groups, in accordance with your personal learning goals.
TARMO’s facilities are located at Karelia’s Tikkarinne campus. Our facilities enable a variety of activities, from customer receptions to testing, group activities, and fitness coaching.

Feedback from Previous Students at TARMO:
”A practical placement at TARMO develops organizational and teamwork skills. Doing and planning is really free, which opens up many doors to new learning and personal development. The best part is getting to work in a multidisciplinary way and learning new things from students from other fields, and therefore developing further professionally.” (a nursing student)
”I would recommend TARMO to everyone. I would tell them to all do at least one practical training at TARMO, because you will gain skills that you may not get from other placements. You will get to do a variety of different tasks and you will be able to implement different events and sessions. The work is independent, so your organizational skills will be strengthened.” (a nursing student)
”Your perspective on multidisciplinary work grows, as you work with many other students from different fields. You get to do/have to do things and take responsibility. You learn organisational, teamwork, and leadership skills.” (an applied gerontology student)
”TARMO is an amazing place for a practical placement. It is so versatile and different from traditional placements. You should throw away all your prejudices immediately! TARMO gives you a lot of work skills and you will find sides of yourself that you may not have known you had!” (a public health nursing student)
”TARMO gives you the freedom to use your professional skills as much as you want and can. There are opportunities to do so many things, you just need to be brave enough to try.” (a physiotherapy student)
”In TARMO, you can develop your planning and organizational skills, as well as your skills in holistic examination and rehabilitation of individual clients.” (a physiotherapy student)
”Above all, a practical training at TARMO was a different, educational and also eye-opening experience. I also learned a lot about myself, for example, about my skills, my feedback giving and receiving styles, and my versatile experience in guiding individuals and groups. Taking responsibility, learning scheduling and organizational skills, teamwork and collaboration skills, planning and guidance skills, and conscientiousness are probably all-encompassing terms.” (a physiotherapy student)
